Bellaria Igea Marina

Where to eat in Bellaria Igea Marina

Bellaria Igea Marina's cuisine combines piadina with dishes from the Romagna coast. The harbour and fishing explain the presence of clams and oily fish; fresh pasta retains its link with home cooking. The areas for a meal are central Bellaria, the harbour area and the avenues of Igea Marina.

Poveracce clams and seafood cooking

Clams, known as poveracce in Romagna, are among the ingredients associated with local history. The name also appears in accounts of the women who sold them, a feature of coastal life documented between the two world wars. They feature in traditional pasta dishes and soups.

Seafood cooking also includes grilled fish, mussels au gratin and dishes made with oily fish.

A piadina or a pasta dish

Bellaria Igea Marina lies within the production area of Piadina Romagnola IGP. Piada can be served with cured meats and cheeses or filled: prosciutto, Squacquerone di Romagna DOP and rocket are a common combination on the coast. A cassone, by contrast, encloses its filling before cooking.

Meat-based and inland cooking adds tagliatelle, cappelletti and passatelli, with traditional ragù and broth. Romagna sweets include ciambella, castagnole and fave dolci, associated with celebrations throughout the year.

The centre, harbour and Igea Marina

Bellaria's central streets and Isola dei Platani combine a food stop with a walk and shopping in Bellaria Igea Marina. The area at the mouth of the Uso, with its canal harbour, is another district, separate from the pedestrian centre. In Igea Marina, the avenues in the seaside area offer a base close to the beach.

Food festivals

In September, Festa della Piadina brings food preparation and stalls to Isola dei Platani in central Bellaria. Between late August and early September, Il Gusto del Porto devotes two or three evenings to seafood cooking along the canal harbour between Viale Pinzon and Via Rubicone: in 2026, it took place on 28 and 29 August. Dates for other celebrations appear in the Bellaria Igea Marina events calendar. The guide to entertainment in Bellaria Igea Marina covers outings through its neighbourhoods and seaside spaces.
