Misano Adriatico beach stretches for about three kilometres from the Rio Alberello, on the Riccione border, to the mouth of the Conca towards Cattolica. The Rio Agina divides two landscapes: to the north, breakwaters follow the shore; to the south, rock groynes perpendicular to the coast form spaces known as vasche, or compartments. Portoverde occupies the southern section of the coast.
The meaning of punte and vasche
Punte are tongues of sand forming behind the parallel breakwaters. Vasche are the areas of water between successive groynes. The shape of the defences therefore changes the beach's appearance and the arrangement of lifeguard posts.
| Stretch | Defences and landmarks | Identifying features |
|---|---|---|
| North of the Rio Agina | Misano Brasile and the Riccione border | parallel breakwaters and sand points |
| From the Rio Agina towards Portoverde | groynes perpendicular to the shore | beach divided into compartments |
| Portoverde | marina and piers | small beaches beside the harbour |
Ordinanza comunale 83/2026 also distinguishes the groyne section for supervision: groynes restrict visibility between compartments, so the ordinance requires a tower every two groynes, with lifeguards overseeing the compartments on either side.

Beach establishments and choosing an area
The tourism portal uses numbers from 1 to 76 to locate beach establishments, including those in Portoverde. Merged operations and concessions mean that the final number does not match the total number of establishments.
For a day by the sea, useful considerations are distance from accommodation, seafront access and the chosen beach establishment's services. Play facilities, sports activities and equipment for people with reduced mobility depend on each establishment. Options away from the sand appear in the guide to Misano Adriatico with children.
The Comune's free areas have different arrangements: their access points and services are covered in the guide to Misano Adriatico's free beaches, with rules for dogs.
Dogs may swim only in front of authorised beach establishments, each year from the Saturday before Easter to the last Sunday in October (ordinanza comunale 61/2023). From 3 November to the Saturday before Easter, the regional ban on animals applicable during the summer season does not apply.
Portoverde and the sea outside the harbour
Portoverde combines a marina, buildings and small beaches. Swimming is prohibited in the harbour and its entrance.
The Portoverde guide describes the harbour and its relationship with the seafront walk. Beyond the Conca begins Cattolica beach.
Water, flags and seasonal services
Misano Adriatico's four bathing waters are classified as excellent for 2026. They are Rio Alberello, Rio Agina, the stretch opposite Via Monti and the stretch north of Portoverde harbour. During the season, sampling results and any temporary bans are published on the Arpae bathing-water portal.
Ordinanza 83/2026 identifies the flagpole at the free beach in Piazzale Roma as the reference for beach establishments' flag colour. Lifeguard cover is compulsory from the third weekend in May to the third in September: from 16 May to 20 September in 2026.
The seafront and northern pinewood
The seafront cycle route links the coastal areas towards Riccione and Cattolica. In the north, Parco Mare Nord includes a pinewood behind the beach; southwards, the walk reaches Portoverde. In Via Litoranea Nord, on the beach at Parco Mare Nord, the Comune is restoring the building of the former colonia Piacenza.
Connections from the station and orientation between districts are covered in the Misano Adriatico guide.
