Free beaches in Gabicce Mare

The three landmarks for Gabicce Mare's free beaches are the harbour, Sottomonte and Fortino. The first is a small space beside the Tavollo pier; the other two lie in the southern part of the bay. Beyond Fortino begins the high cliff coast; further south, beyond the headland, is Vallugola bay.

Harbour: the small stretch by the Tavollo

The free area lies between the canal harbour's eastern pier and the first beach establishment. ARPAM entries describe it as a small stretch without equipment, covered by lifeguard services. Swimming is prohibited at the harbour entrance.

Across the Tavollo is Cattolica, already in Emilia-Romagna, with different bathing dates and rules. Access points on the Romagna side appear in the guide to Cattolica's free beaches.

Sottomonte: the descent from Viale Mare

Sottomonte lies below Viale Mare and Via Panoramica, between beach establishments 37 and 42-44. The main access is at the bottom of the Viale Mare descent. ARPAM classifies it as a free beach with facilities and lifeguard cover; in 2025, the Comune installed a walkway, gazebo and beach volleyball court.

Fortino: the edge of the town beach

The third free stretch is near the old Fortino, at the end of the bay: it is the last before the high coast.

Cliffs, Vallugola and Fiorenzuola di Focara

Below the Gabicce Monte cliffs, from the end of the town beach to Vallugola harbour, landslide risk closes the coast: passage along the shore and all sea activities within 50 metres of the shoreline are prohibited, and the stretch has no lifeguard service.

Vallugola, beyond the headland, is a bay with a stony beach in Parco del Monte San Bartolo: the beach belongs to a beach establishment, and swimming is prohibited in the adjoining small harbour. Access and applicable park rules are explained in the guide to Gabicce Mare beach.

Further south, in Comune di Pesaro, Fiorenzuola di Focara beach is a small natural park beach, reached on foot from the village along Strada della Marina.

Season, dogs and bathing waters

Dates in the Marche differ from those in Romagna. Gabicce Mare's 2026 bathing season ran from 1 May to 20 September. The free beaches at the harbour and Sottomonte have lifeguard cover in summer; in other months, they have no lifeguard.

The Marche regional coastal regulations prohibit dogs on the beach from 1 April to 30 September, except guide dogs and certified water-rescue dogs. From 1 October to 31 March, the regional ban does not apply. On beaches in Parco del Monte San Bartolo, below the cliffs and at Vallugola, park regulations instead prohibit dogs throughout the year, except service dogs, rescue dogs and dogs accompanying visually impaired people.

Gabicce Mare's bathing waters are classified as excellent for 2026. During the season, sampling results and any temporary bans appear on the ARPAM bathing-water portal.

Travel from the centre and station is covered in the Gabicce Mare guide.
