Riccione beach stretches for about 6.2 kilometres between Misano Adriatico and Rio dell'Asse, on the Rimini boundary. The canal harbour and Marano river help divide the coast into recognisable areas. Beach establishment numbers increase from south to north; there are also stretches of free beach between establishments.
From the Misano boundary to Rio dell'Asse
The southern part includes the Abissinia area and Piazzale Kennedy, Piazzale Marinai d'Italia and Piazzale San Martino. Towards the centre comes Piazzale Roma, the seaward end of Viale Ceccarini. The harbour interrupts the beach between areas 90 and 91. Beyond the canal begin Alba, Piazzale Azzarita and the stretch towards Marano.
| Landmark | Beach establishment areas | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Piazzale Kennedy | 16 and 17 | southern part of the coast |
| Piazzale Marinai d'Italia | 46 and 47 | Monumento ai Caduti del Mare |
| Piazzale San Martino | 51 and 52 | Abissinia district |
| Piazzale Roma | 77 and 78 | end of Viale Ceccarini |
| Canal harbour | 90 and 91 | Rio Melo mouth |
| Piazzale Azzarita | 110 and 111 | Alba area |
| Marano free beach | 132 and 134 | opposite Piazzale Vittorini |
The numbers reach 153A and 153B but do not correspond to the same number of establishments: there are combined numbers, letters and areas returned to free use. The municipal tourism portal lists 130 beach establishments. Finding an access point is easier when the number is always matched with the nearby square or street.
The Riccione beach tent
The beach tent is one of Riccione beach's most recognisable features. The name refers to the complete structure of poles, crosspieces and canvas, providing a different kind of shelter from a parasol and still coexisting with it at beach establishments.
The Ministero della Cultura's 2024 listing links this tradition to sails hung out to dry by fishermen: fishermen who became beach attendants adapted them to shelter the first holidaymakers. Structures shared between neighbouring establishments also preserve a trace of how beach work was organised.
Beach establishment services and accessibility
The Comune portal describes Riccione's beach establishments as accessible, with easy-access routes, walkways and adapted toilets. Some also have beach wheelchairs or equipment for people with visual impairments. The municipal ordinance requires establishment owners to facilitate beach and swimming access for people with disabilities on request.
Beach tents, parasols and loungers are the main arrangements. For a day with children, proximity to services, routes across the sand and activities actually available also matter; the Riccione with children page collects other options in town.
Lifeguard cover is compulsory from the third weekend in May to the third in September: in 2026 it ran from 16 May to 20 September. In other months, the beach has no lifeguards.
For dogs, during the 2026 summer season from 4 April to 2 November, the beach was open only in five free stretches and designated areas at beach establishments. From 3 November 2026 to 27 March 2027, the winter season, “Mare d'Inverno”, applies, and animal access follows Comune regulations. Times and conditions are on the Riccione free beaches page.

Open sea and submerged defences
Off Riccione, the row of emerged breakwaters characteristic of other Riviera beaches is absent, but between Misano and Piazzale Roma there are submerged barriers, also documented in the Comune's environmental projects.
Beach width varies along the coast and changes with storms and beach nourishment. The stretch north of the harbour is particularly exposed to winter erosion.
Dunes and the Marano mouth
Between Marano and Rio dell'Asse, the landscape includes free stretches, small dunes and sand vegetation. Kentish plovers nest here, laying their eggs directly on the beach. Fenced areas and protective signs distinguish conservation spaces from normal sea access points.
In the south too, near Piazzale Marinai d'Italia, a stretch with dune plants remains, described by the Comune as a sand botanical garden. In 2025, the coast also hosted a Caretta caretta nest on Marano beach. Sea turtle rescue work is explored in the Fondazione Cetacea guide.
Water quality and seafront walks
In the regional classification for 2026, Riccione's eight bathing waters are excellent, and the town has held the Blue Flag since 2022. The harbour entrance and Marano mouth include stretches closed to swimming; during the monitoring season, temporary bans are published on the Arpae bathing water portal.
Lungomare della Libertà links the harbour with the central area; to the north, the walk continues towards Marano. Routes and connections with the rest of town are on the excursions from Riccione page. The Riviera Romagnola beaches guide compares this coast with other resorts.
