Cattolica

Cattolica beach

Cattolica beach stretches for just over two kilometres between the harbour on the Tavollo and the Conca mouth. The Via Fiume jetty divides two areas: Levante towards the harbour, and Ponente towards the Acquario. Breakwaters parallel to the coast accompany both, while seafronts and access points vary between sides.

Levante and Ponente: the difference from land

At Levante, the beach lies below Lungomare Rasi Spinelli, raised above the sand. At Ponente, access points follow the walk in front of Via Carducci towards the Ventena and Conca mouths. The jetty is the common point for orientation.

Numbering increases from the harbour towards the Conca. The 2025 plan distinguishes 29 establishments in Levante and 22 in Ponente: the highest numbers do not equal the total number of establishments, because the sequence includes combined numbers and gaps.

Access without equipment hire is covered on the Cattolica free beaches page, from the harbour to Parco Le Navi.

Breakwaters and sand movement

The municipal plan describes seventeen emerged breakwaters protecting the bay. The seabed is sandy and slopes gently.

Sand accumulating by the harbour basin and erosion on some Ponente stretches explain why the beach does not have a uniform width; the Ventena and Conca mouths interrupt the coast.

Services and accessibility

Beach establishments organise parasols, loungers and services along both areas. The beach plan provides for routes to the water and aids for people with reduced mobility; water assistance is arranged with the chosen beach establishment.

When choosing a spot, distance from toilets, access from the seafront and the route across the sand matter. In Levante, the height difference between the walkway and beach is a factor; in Ponente, entrances are spread along the coastal walk.

Ordinanza comunale 2/2024 governs dogs each summer season, from the Saturday before Easter to 2 November. At beach establishments with a designated area, dogs can swim from dawn to 8am and from 7pm to sunset, without staying or walking along the waterline; the free beach opposite Parco Le Navi has its own hours, described with the free access points. From 3 November to the Saturday before Easter, the regional animal ban does not apply, and the municipal ordinance, concerning only the summer season, sets no other rules.

Water quality and temporary notices

For 2026, Viale Fiume bathing water is classified as excellent; Cattolica's other four waters are good. Heavy rain may trigger temporary bans, published during the monitoring season on the Arpae bathing water portal.

The harbour and river mouths include areas closed to swimming, signposted on site. Lifeguard cover is compulsory from the third weekend in May to the third in September, from 16 May to 20 September in 2026; in other months, the beach has no lifeguards.

From the jetty to Le Navi

The Via Fiume jetty is the central area's landmark. Towards the Tavollo, Lungomare Rasi Spinelli continues to the harbour basin; towards the Conca is the Le Navi complex, the seaside holiday colony opened in 1934 that now houses Acquario di Cattolica.

The Cattolica guide covers travel from the station and other town stops. Beyond the Conca begins Misano Adriatico beach, while across the Tavollo lies Gabicce Mare beach, already in the Marche.
