Free beaches in Riccione

The Comune's tourism portal lists 13 free beaches in Riccione, spread along the entire coast from the Misano boundary to Rio dell'Asse. Some occupy small spaces between beach establishments; others, especially towards Marano, have a wider frontage. Locating them requires the numbers of neighbouring establishments and the name of the access square.

Access points from south to north

The Comune's lifeguard plans also distinguish smaller free strips grouped together in the tourism list: this is why the table has more rows than the portal's 13 beaches. The numbers identify beach establishments on either side of each access point.

Marano, services and natural environment

The beach opposite Piazzale Vittorini, between areas 132 and 134, is the subject of a dedicated Comune listing, with showers and seasonal lifeguard service.

Further on, the river reaches the sea. Both banks are part of the Marano landscape, but the mouth is not a swimming area. Towards Rimini, dunes and sand plants appear, with Kentish plover nesting areas: fencing and signs indicate where passage must be avoided.

In the centre, near Piazzale Roma, Palazzo del Turismo in Piazzale Ceccarini is the reference point for public toilets.

Dogs: five free beaches in summer, Comune rules in winter

From 3 November 2026 to 27 March 2027, Riccione is in its winter season, “Mare d'Inverno”: the regional animal ban does not apply, and dogs are allowed on the beach in accordance with the relevant Comune regulations.

Each year, from the Saturday before Easter to 2 November, the regional bathing ordinance bans animals on the beach, except rescue dogs, guide dogs and, following notification to the Comune, dogs accompanying people with disabilities. In the 2026 summer season, from 4 April to 2 November, the municipal ordinance allowed dogs to stay and swim at five free beaches: between beach establishments 5 and 7, 51 and 52, 77 and 78, 132 and 134, and 146 and 147, from 6am to 7.30am and from 7pm to sunset.

The conditions were a lead no longer than one and a half metres, a muzzle to hand, registration on the dog register and up-to-date vaccinations. Swimming was allowed only in favourable sea and weather conditions and with the owner in the water; dogs could neither stay nor walk along the waterline.

Lifeguards and swimming conditions

On free beaches, lifeguard cover forms part of collective lifeguard plans. The regional ordinance makes it compulsory from the third weekend in May to the third in September: in 2026 it ran from 16 May to 20 September, from 9.30am to 6.30pm. In other months, beaches remain open without lifeguards.

Riccione's eight bathing waters are classified as excellent for 2026; swimming is prohibited at the Marano mouth and in the canal harbour. Sample results and any temporary bans can be consulted on the Arpae bathing water portal.

Finding the way before arrival

Piazzale Roma is at the end of Viale Ceccarini; Piazzale Azzarita serves the Alba area, while Piazzale Kennedy is a landmark for the southern part. The Piazzale Azzarita, Piazzale Curiel and Piazzale Marinai d'Italia car parks are near the coast.

From Rimini, Start Romagna route 11 stops in Alba, at Piazzale Azzarita, and reaches Piazzale Curiel; Metromare links Rimini and Riccione stations. Other connections are in the Riccione guide.

The Riccione beach page explains beach establishment numbering and the features of different stretches, also useful when choosing a free access point.
